The art and culture industry in Nevada is unique. In addition to what tourists may find in casinos, the Silver State has a myriad of museums, orchestras, art centers and more. When it comes to economic contribution, workforce development and the overall growth of the human condition, arts and culture in Nevada has been surging in recent years.
Recently, a group of art and culture experts met at a roundtable sponsored by Nevada State Bank to discuss their industry, the challenges they face and the value they bring to the Silver Sate. Connie Brennan, publisher and CEO of Nevada Business Magazine, served as moderator for the event. These monthly roundtables bring together different industries to discuss issues and solutions.

Las Vegas Philharmonic: Founded in 1998 by Music Director and Conductor Laureate Harold Weller and long-time Las Vegas arts supporters Susan and Andrew Tompkins, the Las Vegas Philharmonic made a bold stake for artistic credibility with its inaugural concert, a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection” in 1999.
Nevada Arts Council: The Nevada Arts Council (NAC), a division of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, was created as a state agency in 1967. With offices in Carson City and Las Vegas, NAC’s mission is “to enrich the cultural life of the state through leadership that preserves, supports, strengthens and makes accessible excellence in the arts for all Nevadans.”
Nevada Ballet Theatre: Now celebrating its 45th Season, Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) continues to bring the Las Vegas community closer to the art form of dance. With professional Company productions at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, where it is the Resident Ballet Company, an affiliated Ballet and Dance Academy, as well as numerous Education and Outreach programs, NBT is at the heart of Las Vegas’ cultural landscape.
The Reno Phil: The Reno Phil is northern Nevada’s largest performing arts organization with something for all tastes from Classical to Pop. Beginning its 50th anniversary season, the orchestra, led by music director Laura Jackson, is a part-time, per-service orchestra comprised of over 60 professional musicians who perform more than 30 concerts annually throughout the Reno, Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe region.
