UNR Opens Bab to Boost the Semiconductor Workforce
Last month, the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) College of Engineering opened a nanofabrication lab to educate students for semiconductor and microelectronics manufacturing. The lab is equipped with tools for lithography, deposition, etching, wire bonding and metrology. These tools enable the manufacture of electronic, photonic and quantum devices. The school is hoping the lab will spur faculty innovation and facilitate industry collaboration to help propel workforce development.
Nevada Home Prices Remain at Record High Levels
In southern Nevada, the Las Vegas REALTORS (LVR) released a report showing that home prices are hovering around record highs with an increasing number of homes available for sale. LVR reported the median price of existing single-family homes sold during March was $485,000, tying the all-time high and matching the price from the previous two months. This price is up 4.3 percent from the previous year. At the same time, houses are remaining on the market longer in southern Nevada. By the end of March, 5,416 single-family homes were listed for sale without an offer, up 63 percent from the previous year. In northern Nevada, Sierra Nevada REALTORS (SNR) reported the median sales price for a single-family home was $575,000 up slightly from the previous month but level with the same time last year.
Cadence Crossing Casino Breaks Ground
Boyd Gaming has announced a new casino in southern Nevada – Cadence Crossing Casino. The company broke ground with the new facility which will include 450 slot machines along with several food and beverage offerings. The property will replace the Jokers Wild Casino, is located next to Cadence in Henderson and is expected to open mid-2026.
