Cure 4 the Kids and CCSD Debut Education Center
The Cure 4 the Kids Foundation and the Clark County School District (CCSD) have partnered to open an education center. The center will help childhood cancer patients and others with catastrophic conditions maintain their educational progress during extended medical treatments. The center will be located in the same building as the Cure 4 the Kids clinic and provide patients with one-on-one access to a CCSD teacher. The ribbon-cutting is scheduled for the end of this month.
Resorts World Las Vegas Partners with Hilton
Resorts World has partnered with Hilton to bring three Hilton brands, marking the largest multi-brand deal in the company’s history. Hilton Hotels & Resorts, LXR, Hilton’s luxury brand and Conrad Hotels & Resorts as well as the Hilton Honors loyalty program will all be integrated into Resorts World. The $4.3 billion resort is expected to open in the summer of next year and will feature 3,500 rooms, a 5,000 capacity theater, 350,000 square feet of meeting and conventions space and a 220,000 square foot pool complex, among other amenities.
Nevada Corporate Giving Increases
According to the 2019 Nevada Corporate Giving Report, Nevada businesses have grown their level of social investment with an estimated statewide total of $525 milllion in 2018. That represents an average increase of 9.7 percent from the previous year. According to the report, Nevada businesses are mutually concerned with issues such as education, homelessness and affordable housing, matching previous years areas of concern. Only 11 percent of companies adjusted the causes they supported in the year previous. In addition, statewide, employees invested over 2.2 million volunteer hours. Employee giving in Nevada totaled $5.8 million and, globally, Nevada corporations had an impact of $85.7 million. Employee giving in Nevada grew by 7 percent.
Nevada Ranks Fourth in Nation for Robocalls
According to a recent report compiled by Provision Living, Nevada was the fourth-hardest hit with robocalls last year. Since 2015, Nevada has received the sixth most robocalls in the nation and has seen an increase of 14 percent since. The report was compiled using data from the Federal Trade Commission’s National Do Not Call Registry. Meanwhile, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford recently announced additional telephone companies have agreed to adopt and enforce Anti-Robocall Principles. The principles are part of a bipartisan public/private coalition of 51 attorneys general and 12 telephone companies to better investigate and prosecute illegal robocalls.
Las Vegas Shows Record Convention Attendance in 2019
In 2019, Las Vegas was host to a record 6.6 million meeting or convention attendees, breaking the previous record in 2017 and showing a 2.3 increase over 2018. The city welcomed 42.5 million visitors last year and resorts boasted occupancy rates of 88.9 percent and a 2.9 percent increase in average daily room rates from 2018. In addition, the Las Vegas Convention Center and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is underway with the convention center expansion. LVCVA recently announced that excavation has been completed in the first of two vehicular tunnels that will comprise the Vegas Loop underground transportation system underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center campus.
Nevada’s Public Universities Achieve National Distinction
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) received the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement. The recognition was achieved by only 119 institutions in the nation for the 2020 cycle and highlights the universities’ commitment to and demonstration of community engagement. Universities were evaluated based on collaboration with the communities to enrich scholarship, research and creative activity as well as enhancing curriculum and addressing critical societal issues.
