Clark County School District Partners with Nonprofit to Address Student Homelessness
The Clark County School District (CCSD) has partnered with Purposity, a nonprofit which connects users with one-to-one needs in the community. The partnership is meant to help students experiencing homelessness. CCSD’s Title 1 Homeless Outreach Program for Education (HOPE) launched a profile within the nonprofit’s app that allows community members to help support students through donations. CCSD serves approximately 13,000 students who are considered homeless under federal law.
FundNV Launches Second Round of Investments for Nevada-based Startups
A for-profit, pre-seed venture capital fund based in Las Vegas, FundNV has launched a second round of investments that will invest $2 million in scalable, early revenue Nevada-based startups. In this second round of investments, FundNV will invest $100,000 per startup in at least 20 Nevada companies over the next 32 to 48 months. The first round was in 2020 and awarded $50,000 each to 19 companies over four years. These investments will be matched by Nevada’s Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) program. In addition, under the new, first in the nation “Nevada Certified Investor” law that was enacted in 2023 and qualifies more people to invest in startups, FundNV will allow investors to participate at lower minimum investment levels.
NSU Simulation Center Granted Provisional Accreditation
The simulation center at Nevada State University’s (NSU) School of Nursing has been granted provisional accreditation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). The center is a candidate for full accreditation after two years of review by SSH. The simulation center is located on College of Southern Nevada’s (CSN) Henderson campus and features human-like manikins which simulate various scenarios related to patient care, healthcare needs and hospital visits.
Urology Nevada Expands to Carson City
A urology practice in northern Nevada, Urology Nevada has expanded services to Carson City through a partnership with Carson Medical Group. The partnership enables weekly clinics at the medical group’s new facility and will serve both adult and pediatric patients. Physicians with Urology Nevada will rotate through the Carson City office on Mondays or Thursdays. The medical practice has been serving Reno for nearly 20 years.
UNR Completes Assessment of Nevada’s Public Health Infrastructure
In partnership with the Nevada Association of Counties, University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Extension has completed an assessment of Nevada’s public health infrastructure. Findings from the assessment indicate the system is “fragile and at-risk”. Mapping rural Nevada counties (excluding Washoe and Clark) as part of UNR Extension’s Nevada Economic Assessment Project, the data focuses on the health of a population and will help local governments, policy makers and organizations prioritize and propose solutions for Nevadans.
