Community Development Block Grant Funds Awarded to Nevada Cities and Counties
Nearly $4 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds have been awarded to 17 projects in rural Nevada. The projects are spread over five counties and the Cities of Ely, Fallon, Fernley, Wells and Carson. The awards and projects range from $35,000 for the Ron Woods-Family Resiliency Program in Carson City to $800,000 for a street and sidewalk project in Lincoln County. The cities and counties invested an additional $1.2 in matching funds for the project. Since its inception in Nevada in 1982, the CDBG program has awarded over $95 million to rural Nevada communities.
Southern Nevada Home Prices Post Decline
For the first time since 2020, southern Nevada home prices have posted their first monthly decline, according to a report released by the Las Vegas Realtors® (LVR). In June of this year, the median price of existing single-family homes sold in southern Nevada through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) was $480,000, that is down from the all-time record of $482,000 posted in May. The median price, however, is still up 21.5 percent from one year ago.
Child Care Services Center Opens in Reno
The Nevada Strong Start Child Care Services Center (CCSC) has launched in Reno to support providers and families. The center receives funding from the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services and two Child Care and Development Block Grants – Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Act and American Rescue Plan Act. The center will provide one location for childcare providers to access resources, support and information to provide the best care to the families they serve.
Foundation for Positively Kids Breaks Ground on Center for Special Needs Children
The Foundation for Positively Kids recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new center for special needs children. The facility will feature 60-beds and take care of children who have long-term, complex medical conditions. It will provide long-term, skilled nursing services as well as a medical clinic and outpatient therapies. The Foundation indicated there were approximately 65 Nevada children being treated at facilities in other states and the new pediatric center would allow them to come home.
