UNR and SNU Acquisition Proposal Approved
The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) has been approved to acquire Sierra Nevada University (SNU) by the executive committee of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The committee noted that the transaction, “will allow for continued long-term growth and financial stability,” for Nevada. The acquisition must now be approved by the United States Department of Education before being finalized in July of this year.
Harsch Investment Properties Changes Name
Harsch Investment Properties, which has operated in Las Vegas since 1995 and has a portfolio of over 10.5 million square feet of commercial space in Nevada, has changed its name to Schnitzer Properties. The company was founded by Harold Schnitzer in 1951 and the original name took the first three letters of his first and last names. The company is run today by Schnitzer’s son, Jordan.
Saint Mary’s Regional Center Receives National Distinction
Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center has been awarded the HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence designation from the American College of Cardiology. The distinction is given to hospitals who participate in multiple quality improvement initiatives. Saint Mary’s is the only hospital in Nevada to be given the recognition.
Summerlin Ranks Third in National New Home Sales
The master planned community (MPC) of Summerlin has ranked third for the fourth year running on RCLCO’s national report of new home sales in 2021. RCLCO is a real estate consulting firm that produces an annual ranking of MPCs. The community saw an increase in yearly home sales of over 13 percent. Summerlin has the most total appearances on the list of all actively ranked MPCs and has been in the top-ten every year since 2015.
Signs of Hope Receives Grant from MGM Resorts International
Signs of Hope, formerly known as the Rape Crisis Center, has received a $50,000 grant from MGM Resorts International. The organization provides a broad range of services for survivors of sexual violence and exploitation. The grant will be used to support the organization’s RISE (Resources and Integration for Survivor Empowerment) program. The program provides crisis response and long-term case management services to victims of all forms of human trafficking.
