Station Casinos Opens Durango Casino & Resort
In early December, Station Casinos opened the Durango Casino & Resort, the company’s newest resort in southwest Las Vegas. The resort features 83,000 square foot of casino space and over 200 guest rooms and suites. The resort also has dining options, including a food hall experience, Eat Your Heart Out, which spans 25,000 square feet.
Brightline West Rail Project Grant Approved
The Brightline West high-speed rail project received $3 billion in Federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The rail project will be 218-miles from Las Vegas to Southern California and is expected to be complete in time for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. When complete, the Brightline West will be the United States’ first operating true high-speed rail system. Along with the California High-Speed Rail project, Brightline West will be part of a planned West Coast Corridor connecting Las Vegas to Los Angeles and San Francisco. California expects to complete the first 171-mile operating segment in the Central Valley between 2030 and 2033.
NNRDA Launches Program for Supply Chain Companies
The Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority (NNRDA) has launched Silver Link. A supply-chain soft-landing program for domestic and international mining service and support companies, Silver Link is supported by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) through financial and other assistance. The intention of the program is to address supply chain gaps in Nevada’s mining industry to better serve the needs of operators and service providers.
Legislature Defers Vote for CCSD Support Staff Raises
The Clark County School District (CCSD) has requested the allocation of $58 million in Senate Bill 231 for support staff raises. In mid-December, the Nevada Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee deferred a vote to approve the funding. According to the committee, CCSD failed to present any plans for raises for licensed educators. As of an impasse in September, CCSD has not yet reached a deal with the Clark County Education Association (CCEA) for licensed teachers.
