Childhood Community Health Worker Program Started in Nevada
Nevada Strong Start Child Care Services Center has launched the Nevada Early Childhood Community Health Workers (CHWs) program to serve childcare providers and families. The program makes Nevada the first state in the nation to offer a service bridging gaps in the early childhood community. CHW will serve as liaisons between the community and health and social service providers to better support Nevada families. The program launched in Las Vegas and is now expanding to Reno.
Home Prices in Nevada Continue to Set Records
According to Las Vegas Realtors ® (LVR), the median price of existing single-family homes sold in southern Nevada during May was $482,000, breaking the previous month’s record and up 25.2 percent from the same time last year. In Reno, the median price for an existing home reached $630,000 in April, another record, according to the Reno-Sparks Association of Realtors ® (RSAR). Both major markets in Nevada are expected to start cooling. “The slowdown in sales and increase in our housing supply are signs that things may be starting to calm down a bit,” said Brandon Roberts, current president of LVR.
Municipalities Partner to Combat Water Waste
The City of Henderson, Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) and the City of North Las Vegas are partnering for joint water waste enforcement patrols, a first for the agencies. They each are assisting in patrols within the three jurisdictions to target water waste. The partnership allows for a larger area of patrol for all three agencies. Violators of seasonal watering restrictions are subject to fines.
GOED Board Approves $1.6 Million Development Program
The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has approved $1.6 million to enable the Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) to establish a training center in Reno. The center will support Panasonic Energy North America (PENA) in filling 400 jobs that pay upwards of $32 per hour. More than $1 million in training equipment will outfit the 10,000 square foot PENA facility near the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Funding for the program comes through GOED’s Workforce Innovations for the New Nevada (WINN) Fund.
