Investments for the State of Nevada Post Strong Returns
According to the state treasurer, investment returns for the state’s general portfolio have quadrupled since 2015. In addition, the local government investment pool (LGIP) returns are up nearly 20 times as much as they were in fiscal year 2015. As of the end of March, the general portfolio returned nearly $24 million to state agencies and the LGIP has distributed nearly $10 million in interest to local governments for the past three quarters.
Matter Real Estate Group Enters Las Vegas Market
A new developer, Matter Real Estate Group, has entered the Las Vegas market with 1.1 million square feet planned or under construction. Founded by real estate veterans with history in the Las Vegas market and over 80 years of combined experience, Matter is headquartered out of San Diego, CA. The company is currently developing four mixed-use projects throughout the Valley.
NevadaTeach Graduates First Class of Dual-Degreed Students
Began nearly four years ago, NevadaTeach is a partnership with the UTeach program and Howard Hughes Medical Institute to help address teacher shortages and increase teacher retention in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The program currently has 140 students enrolled and just graduated the first cohort of 7 students. As part of NevadaTeach, students majoring in STEM subjects are able to take two teaching classes within their first two semesters. The classes are designed to place STEM majors in elementary and middle school classrooms as soon as possible.
Roseman Announces New Programs and Growth
Last month, CVS Health presented the Roseman University College of Pharmacy with a $25,000 check to fund Hispanic recruitment and outreach initiatives while improving access to education, career opportunities and healthcare for Hispanics and Latinos. The grant will raise awareness of pharmacy careers in the community. In addition, Roseman’s Medical Group opened its first location, adjacent to Spring Valley Hospital. The new practice includes an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) multi-disciplinary clinic to better serve Southern Nevada.
