Reno Tahoe’s Room Tax Collections set Record in 2021
According to Visit Reno Tahoe, which is a part of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA), last year’s total transient lodging and room tax came in over $420 million and was the most taxable room revenue ever recorded for a calendar year. In addition, three of the top four all-time revenue-producing months occurred last year for the region. An additional six records were set for monthly room tax collections. In 2021, taxable room revenue was up 4.2 percent compared to 2019, the area’s previous record-breaking year.
CCSD Receives Financial Reporting Award
The Clark County School District (CCSD) has been recognized with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASB). The recognition is for comprehensive annual financial reporting and transparency. The district’s participation in the recognition program helps facilitate bond rating. CCSD’s financial reports are reviewed by a team of financial professionals who provide feedback to improve future documents.
GOE Releases Status of Energy Report
The Governor’s Office of Energy (GOE) has released its annual “Status of Energy Report”. The report indicated that Nevada is projected to reach 50 percent of electricity generated by renewable energy sources by 2030. In addition, GOE formed the Regional Transmission Coordination Task Force to lead discussions around a western regional electricity market. The Nevada Department of Conservation of Natural Resources was also created to focus on a climate strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
NIH Awards Grant to Fund Neuroscience in Southern Nevada
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a grant expected to total $11.3 million to fund phase 2 of southern Nevada’s first Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE): The Center for Neurodegeneration and Translational Neuroscience (CNTN). The funding is for a five-year continuation of the center which is managed by a long-standing collaboration between Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
