Nevada Small Business Development Center Releases Survey of Small Business Challenges
The Nevada Small Business Development Center (SBDC) released the 2022 Small Businesses Challenges survey. The survey showed that, of the 225 respondents looking to start a small business or scalable startup, 58 percent claimed that securing financing is one of the top three challenges they encountered in Nevada. The survey also showed that existing businesses have been affected by inflation and rising energy costs. Nearly 50 percent of the 486 existing business respondents said inflation was a significant challenge. Other challenges included hiring and retaining employees and navigating government regulations.
Las Vegas Home Prices Continue To Decline
According to a report from the Las Vegas Realtor’s® (LVR), home prices in southern Nevada have declined for the third straight month. The Multiple Listing Service (MLS) shows that the median price of existing single-family homes sold in southern Nevada during August was $450,000, down from the all-time record of $482,000 in May. The median home price is still up by 11.1 percent from the $405,000 reported a year ago. Prices are still nearly four-times higher than their post-recession bottom in January 2012 when the median price of a single family home was $118,000.
Southwest Gas Announces Joint Sustainability Project
Southwest Gas Corporation has announced a hydrogen-blending demonstration project with the California Public Utilities Commission to improve sustainability measures in Truckee, a border town to northern Nevada’s Lake Tahoe. The project’s goal is to produce information toward implementing sustainable energy solutions with the measurable impact toward Truckee’s Town Council’s goal of an 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Truckee presents a unique opportunity to determine optimal hydrogen-blend percentages in extremely cold areas. Over 18 months, this project will test a blend of 5 to 20 percent hydrogen with natural gas flowing through plastic and steel pipelines.
Nonprofits Partner To Combat Veteran Homelessness
Veterans Guest House, a northern Nevada nonprofit that provides overnight accommodations for military families seeking medical treatment, has announced a partnership with the Karma Box Project to combat veteran homelessness. Together, the nonprofits will pilot a program to provide supportive housing and wraparound services to prepare veterans for independent living. Karma Box Project provides nonperishable food, drinks and other items to those in need and recently expanded to helping the homeless population transition into temporary housing.
