How Did You Get into Your Profession?
I graduated from UNLV with a managerial finance degree. After graduation, I was hired into a bank’s management training program. At the conclusion of the program, I was assigned as a corporate real estate banking officer. I have held several positions in commercial banking and gaming as well.
What Career Advice Would You Give to Someone Just Starting?
Explore the numerous disciplines in banking to see what interests you most. You can never go wrong by spending time learning credit in some capacity. Build a strong network. That is true for all professions.
What Metrics Do You Consider Important When Hiring and/or Reviewing Employees?
Are they intrinsically motivated? Can they identify their own mistakes and how willing are they to learn from them? I firmly believe that being a life-long learner is critical for growth, both individually and organizationally.
How Do You Motivate Your Team?
I provide recognition. I try to understand their goals and learn what motivates each of them individually. I look for ways to give beneficial feedback so that we all keep learning, growing, and moving forward. I provide challenges that help people realize their true potential. I also try to be as accessible and transparent as possible.
What Workplace Project Are You Looking Forward To?
PNC Bank is the largest storefront in Junior Achievement Inspiration Center’s BizTown. I began working on this project over 10 years ago. I can’t wait to see the grand opening with students working at PNC’s bank in Biztown. This is a life-changing experience for students to develop financial literacy, understand the importance of education, and explore so many different professions. We finally have this amazing facility in Las Vegas, and I am thrilled that PNC is part of it.
If You Were Going to Teach a College Course, What Would You Teach?
Emotional Intelligence. It is a game changer for people to understand the impact of the things we say and do with others. In the business context, it helps with workplace relationships, builds trust with clients, and enables stronger relationships overall. Emotional intelligence boils down to the ability to say the right thing to the right person at the right time in the right way to accomplish our goals.
