How did you get into your profession?
My father was an architect, and I admired him greatly. I started working for him at age six, and I was amazed at what he designed, which was built several months later. It was amazing.
What career advice would you give to someone just starting in your industry?
Explore diverse opportunities until you discover your passion. Listen attentively to your clients, exceeding their expectations with innovative solutions. Strive to excel as both a designer and a savvy businessman, while staying focused within your professional expertise.
What metrics do you consider important when hiring?
When hiring an employee, I prioritize passion and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
What is an issue currently facing your industry that an outside observer might not be aware of?
Water scarcity in Nevada poses challenges for cooling large, integrated resorts. High construction costs hinder the development of new entertainment buildings. There is a growing need for architects with practical skills, as not every architect specializes in design.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
Building Dreams: The Architect’s Journey from Las Vegas to Global Resorts.
What is the best moment of your career?
One of the highlights of my career, aside from my 44-year marriage and the joy of parenthood and grandparenthood, was experiencing the openings of The Mirage in 1989, the Las Vegas Sands in 2004 and CIRCA in 2020.

Architectural Design and Business
What workplace events are you looking forward to?
I eagerly anticipate the openings of new large-scale projects on the Strip and downtown, though many are confidential. The reopening of Mt. Charleston Lodge after the devastating fire is particularly exciting. Our restaurant building, Skyline, opening in Las Vegas, also holds great promise. I’m also looking forward to my daughter Suzanne following in my footsteps as a distinguished architect here in Las Vegas.
