Henderson to Build Indoor Sports Complex
The City of Henderson has announced plans to build an indoor sports complex on the southeast corner of St. Rose and Maryland Pkwy., in west Henderson. The complex will be recommended for final approval by the city council at the July 2nd meeting. The 180,000 square foot, two story facility will include convertible basketball courts, hybrid turf fields, community room and family entertainment, in addition to a restaurant. The complex is expected to bring approximate $1.5 million in annual tax revenue, $39.1 million in annual economic output and $10.7 million in wages and salary. This will be a $70 million investment with funds provided through a private third-party partner and one-time funding sources.
New College Basketball Tournament Announced
Beginning in March of next year, a new men’s college basketball post season tournament will launch in Las Vegas. The tournament is a partnership of Fox Sports and entertainment company AEG and will be called the College Basketball Crown. Sixteen teams from the Big Ten, Big East and Big 12 conferences will be included and featured on Fox Sports. Teams that did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament will be eligible to play and games will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and T-Mobile Arena from March 31 to April 6. Earlier this year, Fox Sports announced a partnership with Horizon Sports & Entertainment to launch a Women’s Champions Classic event which is expected to debut during the 2024-25 college hoops regular season.
NBA Arena Planned
LVXP, an experiential-focused real estate company, has announced plans to develop an entertainment and lifestyle venue to serve as home for a possible NBA franchise. The venue would be located across from the Las Vegas Convention Center and adjacent to Fontainebleau Las Vegas. LVXP has enlisted AECOM to provide architecture and engineering services for the sports and entertainment arena and Paul Steelman of Steelman Partners to design a resort and casino on the complex. The arena would anchor a planned 27-acre mixed-use development.
