Las Vegas – An exciting chiropractic technique called Chiropractic BioPhysics can permanently fix neck and lower back pain and relieve many of the symptoms that come with it.
The medical term for pain from degenerative conditions of the spine is spondylosis. Most often, the term refers to osteoarthritis of the spine, but it is also commonly used to describe other types of spinal degeneration. Spondylosis affects the joints in the back that make us able to bend and twist. It can also put pressure on nerves. Spondylosis is commonly linked to the wear-and-tear that weaken the spine as people age. However, spondylosis can also be triggered or worsened by a rugged lifestyle that puts too much stress on joints. When space between vertebrae in the spine shrinks, extra stress is put on the muscles and joints around the shrunken space. Then, when the vertebrae move, it can cause pinched nerves and swelling, usually in areas of the spine that move a lot, such as the neck or lower back. Other symptoms may include less range of motion; the development of bone spurs; stiffness, numbness, tingling, pain that radiates from the neck through the shoulders and arms, and the loss of height.
Yet another embarrassing and inconvenient symptom can be the loss of bladder control. It can happen when the spine is over-stretched or strained and the nerve roots that exit the lower spine become pinched, thereby cutting off electrical signals. Correcting the alignment and position of the spine, particulary in the lower back, may restore those blocked neurological impulses and bring the spinal canal back to its proper length. The correction can reduce the stress on the tissues and spinal cord and may result in better bladder control.
Las Vegas chiropractic physician Dr. Jason O. Jaeger recently helped teach a seminar in Chicago called Lumbar Spine Rehabilitation. Dr. Jaeger is part of the team of Chiropractic BioPhysics physicians that have found a way to help bring crooked and painful spines back into a more normal position permanently instead of just treating the pain temporarily. The session, taught by the CBP instructor team, was held June 9th and 10th . Almost fifty biophysics doctors attended.
“I presented a peer-reviewed, published study, performed at Advanced Spine and Posture, that detailed how, through a corrective Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) plan, patients suffering from debilitating pain can fix the problem,” said Dr. Jaeger.
In the Chiropractic BioPhysics study, a new method of lower back traction, done from a seated position, restored a more normal low back curve in six patients with lumbar hypolordosis, or loss of curve in the lower back. The six study subjects started treatment on or after March 15, 2016, at Dr. Jaeger’s unified medical, physical therapy, and Chiropractic BioPhysics spine clinics in Las Vegas, Nevada. The six were treated with the combination of the seated 3-point bending lumbar extension traction, spinal adjustment, and Mirror Image exercises 3 to 4 times a week for a average total of 16 visits. The study found that the patients’ CBP therapy reduced their low back pain and disability while it improved their health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The results are part of the growing evidence showing that this method should be the first non-surgical procedure that doctors use to treat the spines of patients who have lower back pain caused by shortened spines due to injury or age.
Traditional chiropractic physicians adjust the spine in order to lessen the effects of spondylosis. Spinal adjustments, stretching and strengthening exercises, and other classic treatments, such as heat and/or cold therapy, all improve symptoms and function. However, traditional chiropractic doesn’t permanently correct the spine while the newer CBP causes the position of the spine to correct permanently over time to one that is more normal.
