Work Begins on Hoover Dam Bypass
Engineers from AMEC’s Earth & Environmental operations have started to conduct geologic mapping and a geotechnical assessment for an alternative crossing of the Colorado River near Hoover Dam. The new crossing will feature a four-lane divided highway and a 1,900-foot bridge that will bypass the narrow and heavily congested U.S. 93 crossing at Hoover Dam. In addition to the main bridge, the $198 million project will include approach bridges and roadways in Nevada and Arizona, a tunnel in Nevada, interchanges with the existing U.S. 93 and several wildlife underpasses and overpasses. AMEC operates 90 Earth and Environmental offices in North America, including locations in Reno and Las Vegas.
Aristocrat Technologies Moving to McCarran Center
Thomas & Mack Development Group recently announced Aristocrat Technologies will consolidate its key departments and set up a new headquarters this month in 82,000 square feet of space in a three-story office building at McCarran Center. The firm, the U.S. subsidiary of global gaming leader Aristocrat Leisure Limited, acquired rival Casino Data Systems in July, 2001. With a staff of 600 in Las Vegas, it offers a diversified product line including video and stepper slots, casino management systems, multi-site progressive systems and progressive jackpot meters. McCarran Center, located at I-215 and Warm Springs Road, is a master-planned business park development of Thomas & Mach Development Group. At buildout, it will contain 1.45 million square feet of office space.
PETsMART Distribution Center Planned for Stead
PETsMART recently signed a lease on a building under construction on Moya Boulevard in Stead. PETsMART will occupy almost 150,000 square feet of the 263,000-square-foot building being constructed by Panattoni Development. The PETsMART facility, slated for occupancy in March, will serve as a distribution center for its Pacific Northwest stores. PETsMART is the largest specialty retailer of pet supplies, with over 530 stores in North America and Canada. Colliers International Managing Partner Paul Perkins represented PETsMART in lease negotiations, in cooperation with Eric Termansen of Western Retail Advisors.
Henderson Commerce Center Completes Expansion
Harsch Investment Properties recently completed an expansion of the Henderson Commerce Center that almost tripled its size. The expansion adds four industrial distribution and flex buildings totaling 238,382 square feet to the existing 152,256-square-foot distribution center. The Henderson Commerce Center offers flex space from 1,700 square feet to accommodate retail and office uses as well as warehousing. The flex buildings feature grade-level loading doors, while the light distribution buildings provide dock-high and grade-level loading doors and ESFR sprinkler systems. All four new buildings contain foil insulation, evaporative coolers and 43-phase power. The master-planned business park is located on Warm Springs, east of Gibson Road, near the I-95 and I-215 freeways.
Ken’s Foods Facility Slated for Las Vegas
Ken’s Foods, a national manufacturer of salad dressings, barbeque sauces, mayonnaise and other foods, will break ground early this year on a 160,000-square-foot, 20-acre processing and distribution facility in Las Vegas. The plant, scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2002, will service the entire West Coast and employ approximately 100 people. It will make institutional and private-label products for local hotels as well as the food service industry. The facility will be located at Blue Diamond Ranches, a 400-acre multi-use project at Blue Diamond Road and Decatur Boulevard. The 95-acre business park being developed by Thomas & Mack Development Group will eventually contain 1.6 million square feet of office and industrial space.
