How did you get into your Profession?
I always appreciated the effort and thought needed for building design. Architecture was plan A, there wasn’t a plan B. However, I took a different educational path. I attended a drafting trade school in Arizona immediately after high school; that’s the official story. I didn’t start college until I was 22, I just wasn’t ready.
What has been Instrumental to your Success?
Faith, hard work and vision [have been instrumental]. No one in my family was an architect, so they didn’t understand my passion. I wish they were here now.
What Metrics do you Consider Important when Hiring Employees?
What talents do they have that I don’t? Will they add to, or subtract from, the chemistry that we have as a company? Are they the person represented on their resume?
What is an Issue Currently Facing your Industry that an Outside Observer Might not be Aware of?
We don’t control construction costs. People ask me all the time what their project is going to cost? That is difficult to determine. Design decisions are made 9 to 12 months before materials and labor are purchased.
What Workplace Event are you Looking Forward to?
[I’m looking forward to] our new office. This will be about us, what we do and where we are. No excuses now, we are laying it all out there for everyone to see our work. It will be a place that people want to be in this post-pandemic world.
What is an Assumption People make About you that is Dead Wrong?
I am too serious and I’m all about work. It’s not work, I enjoy what I do.
If you were Going to Teach a College Course, What would you Teach?
Photography. It is a passion of mine and I don’t get to do it enough. I have gained a new perspective on design from photographing our projects.

I look for leadership qualities of a servant mindset and a passion for others.
