How did you get into your profession?
After ending my tour in the military, I began working in a junior position within the technology field. I progressed to the consulting field [where I] noticed there were gaps in how consultants delivered their services. In many cases, competing interests between the client and the solution provider were not in line, resulting in compromised initiatives with costly remediation efforts. With that in mind, I formulated a practice that provides transparency, dedicated partnership and a roster of high-caliber solutions for clients.
What is the best moment of your career?
Having the opportunity to travel the globe and the privilege of meeting people from many cultures has allowed me to gain broader perspectives. This experience has allowed me to rethink what I once saw through a siloed lens to a more holistic approach.
What is an issue currently facing your industry that an outside observer might not be aware of?
Given the current landscape, with a global pandemic still underway, companies are adjusting to a remote or hybrid work-from-home model. This results in challenges such as fewer face-to-face interactions and, in some cases, a decline in team engagement and morale. Leaders are being forced to adjust their management style to promote accountability and productivity in their new setting.
What career advice would you give to someone just starting in your industry?
Success has many fathers; failure only has one. Focus on allowing others to enjoy the success that results from team and collaborative effort but know that failure comes from the person leading the team.
If you were going to teach a college course, what would you teach?
I would teach a course where students would learn problem-solving techniques to identify the root cause of an issue instead of creating an overly complex solution to a basic problem.
What do you hope future generations can learn from your professional journey?
The art of playing chess by thinking proactively, logically and strategically.
