Serving as the first general manager and head coach in franchise history for the Vegas Knight Hawks, Mike Davis is setting the scene for indoor football in southern Nevada. Before joining the team, Davis served as a defensive line coach for Canada Football League’s Toronto Argonauts. He also served as head coach for the Indoor Football League’s Nebraska Danger where he earned a spot in the team’s Hall of Fame in 2018.
How do you juggle your responsibilities as a general manager with those of head coach?
I try and be very good at time management. I’m in the office by 4:30-5 a.m. everyday.
How did you come to work with the Knight Hawks?
I was training kids in Canada while I was preparing for the CFL (Canadian Football League) season and got a few inquiries that connected me with Bill Foley. After we spoke, it was a perfect fit with his vision and mine.
What excites you about this team?
The love for the game and the willingness to come to work daily to prepare for the next opponent. These guys love being around each other and love seeing one another succeed.
What has been surprising to you in the formation of this team?
Not sure anything has surprised me yet. The foundation that Bill Foley and company have set for professional sports in Nevada is amazing.
What is your favorite sport?
Football and Golf
What is your proudest professional achievement?
[I’m] still looking for that proudest moment to date. I have a lot of great moments, but it will be when we bring a championship to Vegas.
If you wrote an autobiography, what would you title it?
“Be Where Your Feet Are”
What is the best moment of your career?
Seeing these young men grow personally and professionally year in and year out.
What might someone be surprised to learn about you?
I work just as hard now, if not harder, than I did when I first started in this career. I’ll give the shirt off my back to help people.
Who is your favorite player of all time?
Tom Brady (football) and Tiger Woods (golf)
What advice do you have for aspiring professional sports athletes?
Stay focused on the little details and enjoy every moment with your teams as you grow. Those memories will last a lifetime.
Why is community involvement important to you?
Without the community there is no Knight Hawks.
What do you hope for the future of sports in Nevada?
For the youth to see that the options for Nevada sports are endless.
