Clubhouse at Red Rock Country Club Nears Completion
The 45,000 sq. ft. clubhouse at the Red Rock Country Club in Las Vegas will be completed in December, according to owner Sunrise Colony Company. Roel Construction is the general contractor for the project in Summerlin, at the far western edge of the city. The clubhouse will feature a formal dining room, three informal restaurants, a banquet room with terrace, golf shop, and luxurious locker rooms. The stone-covered building reflects an interpretation of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Prairie style architecture.
Perini To Build Flamingo Laughlin Convention Center
Ten years after completing the original Flamingo Laughlin resort, Perini Building Company has been hired as the general contractor for the resort’s new convention center. The convention center will total 22,000 square feet and is being built on the roof of an existing low rise building. Perini will use a fast-track schedule for the $7 million project, and plans to have it completed in six months for client Park Place Entertainment. Perini Building Company is the largest builder of hotels and casinos in the country, and has constructed over 37,000 hotel rooms.
Las Vegas Nature Center to Anchor Wetlands Park
Valley Crest, a division of Environmental Industries, Inc., plans to complete its work on the 100-acre Las Vegas Nature Center next month. Development of the Nature Center was funded by a $13 million bond measure passed in 1990 to restore the Wetlands Park, an ecological preserve and sanctuary for wildlife and migratory waterfowl. Valley Crest is restoring all the habitat areas, including installation of native vegetation, landscaping, irrigation, and pond features. Other highlights will be a network of trails leading to a bird blind, an amphitheater, protected overlook structures, and a 50-foot bridge. An 820-foot long levee is being created to control the flow of the Monson Channel, a wash fed by urban runoff and natural springs. The public will be able to explore the park from a network of trails that weave through re-planted wetlands and groves of cottonwood and mesquite trees.
Campus Commons Retail Center Planned for Galena
Colliers International has announced plans for a multi-use retail center on four acres near the intersection of US 395 and the Mt. Rose Highway, on Wedge Parkway. The $6.5 million Campus Commons, developed by Don and Doug Clemetson, will be adjacent to St. Mary’s Hospital and University of Nevada, Reno Redfield Campus, both projects scheduled to begin construction this year. Campus Commons, which will include a 22,000 square foot multi-tenant building and three freestanding buildings, is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2001. The center is designed to meet the needs of the immediate neighborhood in this fast-growing area, as well as serving the university and hospital.
New Project Set for Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas real estate developer Brett Torino has entered into a joint agreement with Lakes Gaming, owned by ex-Stratosphere head Lyle Berman, to build a $700 million nongaming complex at the intersection of Harmon Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. Plans for the 16-acre parcel include a 52-floor hotel and condominium tower, two entertainment venues totaling 60,000 square feet, 400,000 square feet of big-box retail space, and two parking garages. The land includes property currently occupied by the Polo Plaza, Travelodge, and the Shark Club. The partners expect to break ground on the project within 18 months, with completion set for mid-2005.
Two Firms Relocate to Patrick Business Park
Royal Group Technologies Limited has signed an agreement to lease a 330,000 square foot facility in Patrick Business Park, located in Storey County, eight miles east of Reno. The manufacturer of plastic home improvement and consumer products will employ 160 people at the facility, which is slated for completion later this year. Dermody Properties, developer of Patrick Business Park, also arranged for SanMar to lease a 420,000 square foot facility at the 207-acre industrial and commercial center. SanMar is a national corporation specializing in imprinted and embroidered apparel.
Turnberry Place Tops Off First Tower
Turnberry Place, a luxury high-rise condominium development, recently held a topping-off ceremony for the first of its four 38-story towers. Tower One, which will have approximately 185 residences, is slated for occupancy in December. Turnberry Place will offer its residents 24-hour room and porter service, limousine service, and concierge assistance. Ten floor plans are available, ranging in size from 1,550 to 8,000 square feet. Prices range from $400,000 to over $4.5 million. The 15-acre community located near the Sahara Hotel will eventually contain 740 residences, along with the 70,000-square foot Stirling Club, which will house a large spa facility, formal and casual dining, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts and other amenities.
State’s Largest Master-Planned Community Proposed
Reno attorney and lobbyist Harvey Whittemore has announced plans to develop a master-planned community on 43,000 acres in a rural area straddling Clark and Lincoln counties. Whittemore hopes to eventually build as many as 50,000 homes and 10 championship golf courses in his Coyote Springs project 60 miles north of Las Vegas. Although conservation groups have expressed concerns about destroying valuable desert habitat, Coyote Springs officials have promised to develop the parcel in an environmentally responsible manner, including setting aside land for desert tortoises and a large regional park. Before construction can begin, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service must approve the plans, since about a third of the land is leased from the federal government.
