LAS VEGAS – Support from Optum Nevada helped provide an inclusive Summer Day Camp for children ages 5–22 with visual impairments and their sighted peers.
Optum Nevada made this possible through a $5,000 community grant that helps fund programs for children and young adults with visual impairments. Optum’s contribution was matched as part of the Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation (NBCF) fundraising efforts, helping the organization expand its impact and exceed its fundraising goals. NBCF reported raising more than $47,000 from new and returning donors, including $20,000 in matching contributions.

This year, NBCF served 13 students through four weeks of adaptive recreation, giving them the opportunity to experience the tradition of summer camp in an inclusive environment. Activities were adapted with tactile and auditory elements, ensuring every camper could participate and enjoy each experience in their own way. In addition to traditional camp activities like arts and crafts, water play, games, and more, participants explored the city around them via field trips.
“At Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, confidence, and friendships that summer camp creates,” said Maribel Garcia, executive director of NBCF. “Our inclusive programs give children with visual impairments and their sighted peers the chance to learn, grow, and have fun together. We’re especially grateful to community partners like Optum Nevada, whose support helps make these life-changing experiences possible for our students.”
