BANKING & FINANCE

BankWest of Nevada has promoted Laura Bergren to assistant vice president/BankCard services officer, responsible for management of the bank’s merchant services program, automatic teller machines, debit cards and credit cards. She has worked for BankWest since its inception in 1994. Kim Sebesian has been promoted to assistant vice president/central services manager, responsible for managing back office operational services. She has worked for the southern Nevada bank for four years, and has more than 20 years banking experience. Rodger M. Castelano has been hired as a loan officer at the bank’s northwest regional office. Prior to joining BankWest, he worked for Downey Savings & Loan in San Jose, California.

Pamela Madere has been promoted to the position of vice president and controller of Business Bank of Nevada, which has offices in Las Vegas and Carson City. Madere has worked for the bank for two years in the Accounting Department where she held a variety of positions, including manager and accounting administrator. Patrick Hubbard has been hired to serve as vice president and commercial loan officer. A graduate of the American Bankers Association’s Commercial Lending School, he came to Business Bank of Nevada from Community Bank of Nevada. Floy Davis is the new vice president and branch manager of the bank’s Tenaya and Lake Mead office. With over 22 years of banking experience, Davis has worked as a manager, preferred banker, financial sales representative and new accounts representative. She is active in many community organizations.

BUSINESS SERVICES

The Jimmy Pettyjohn Group has hired Christopher J. Winspear as manager of financial services for its Risk Management Division. JPG is a Las Vegas-based firm specializing in benefits, human resources and risk management.

REAL ESTATE & DEVELOPMENT

Lance Robins, a Nevada licensed real estate agent, has joined the firm of Dave Mason Realty, a Las Vegas agency specializing in commercial real estate. A resident of Las Vegas for over 13 years, Robins has been actively involved in the Las Vegas business community.

NAI Americana Commercial has announced the following promotions and new hires: Kathy Campbell and Janet Goldstein have been promoted to senior vice president positions. Both have been with the firm for 17 years, specializing in office and retail property sales. Kent Clifford and Don Chism have been promoted to vice president positions, concentrating on land development and sales. Chris McGarey is a new vice president in charge of property management. Mark Boddeker has joined the firm as a tenant representation specialist. Jan Hoback is a new specialist in office leasing and sales, and Louis Cervantez will specialize in office leasing, investments and sales. Jeff Boughrum has been brought on to head up the Hospitality Division. He has more than 20 years of experience in the hotel industry. The company’s new arterial land specialists are Tony Shortman and H.R. Core.

Cashman Equipment has announced the appointment of Steve Fallick* as vice president of customer support, a new position based at the Las Vegas corporate office. He is responsible for Nevada Caterpillar dealer parts operation and all earthmoving service operations throughout Cashman’s service territory. His 30-year career includes customer service development and senior management experience. Lee Vanderpool* joins Cashman as vice president and chief financial officer with responsibility for the company’s finance, information products, human resources, credit and purchasing departments. He served most recently as the vice president and CFO at Louisiana Machinery Company, a Caterpillar dealer.

Colliers International-Las Vegas has named Xavier Wasiak as vice president of its industrial division. He is responsible for assisting clients with industrial site selection, SBA and conventional financing, build-to-suit development, lease and sale negotiations, and property valuations. Wasiak has more than 10 years of commercial real estate experience at leading firms in Southern Nevada.

Korte-Bellew & Associates Construction Company of Las Vegas recently added three new team members. Ed Andrews is KBA’s new chief estimator, coordinating all estimating activities including quantity surveys and pricing, subcontractor bidding and plan distribution. Estimator George Rogers recently served as lead estimator for a group managing over $400 million in projects for the Clark County School District. Glenn Glasscock is a job site superintendent, in charge of all on site construction activities, including subcontractor coordination.

Commercial Roofers, Inc. of Las Vegas recently announced that third year architecture student Phillip Thompson* is the recipient of this year’s UNLV School of Architecture Commercial Roofers Scholarship. Thompson, a Navy veteran, works with architect Suzana Rutar while attending classes at UNLV.

Jon S. Nestor is the new laboratory manager for Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc. (GES). Involved with quality assurance and laboratory inspections for over 10 years, Nestor recently moved to Las Vegas from Louisiana.

RAFI: Planning, Architecture and Urban Design has announced that Robert A. Fielden has received an Architecture Doctorate degree from the School of Architecture at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. With a focus on advanced practice, and international practice for the Asia-Pacific region, Dr. Fielden is one of only 18 recognized architects selected to be a member of the school’s inaugural class. He is a principal of RAFI and serves as the director of the urban design studio.

Martin-Harris Construction of Las Vegas has named Dennis Moyer Senior Project Manager. His 30-year construction experience encompasses managing projects such as office buildings, hospitals, schools and institutional/public works. Walter Watson has been promoted to Senior Project Manager. His expertise includes water treatment plants, bridges, call centers and class A office projects. Brad Bennett and Bob Calizo will be project managers for Martin-Harris elementary school projects.

EDUCATION

The Board of Regents of the University and Community College System of Nevada has named Thalia Dondero Board chair and Howard Rosenberg as vice chair. Dondero has served on the Board of Regents since 1996 and was vice chair last year. A resident of Las Vegas since 1943, she serves as chair of the Legislative Liason Committee as well as the Initiative for Teacher Education Task Force. Elected to the Board in 1996, Howard Rosenberg is chair of the Board Development Committee and serves as the director of advisement in the UNR art department.

University of Nevada, Reno mechanical engineering professor Yunus Cengel has received the Meriam/Wiley Distinguished Author Award at the annual conference of the American Society of Engineering Education. Cengel was honored for his textbook, “Introduction to Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer.”

GOVERNMENT & LAW

Governor Guinn issued proclamations recently to honor attorneys Ann Bersi and Coe Swobe, two outgoing members of the State Bar of Nevada’s Board of Governors. Bersi, a Clark County deputy district attorney in the civil division, served as president of the State Bar of Nevada from June 1999 until June 2000. Swobe served on the Board of Governors from 1991 to 2000 and in the Nevada Legislature from 1963 to 1974.

HEALTHCARE & INSURANCE

Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) has appointed Gregory E. Boyer to the position of CEO/managing director for Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas. Boyer has over 25 years experience in the healthcare industry, and was most recently the CEO of a UHS medical center in Florida.

Don Stormoen has been hired as a senior loss prevention consultant with Employers Insurance Company of Nevada. He was formerly safety manager with G.E. Johnson Company in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he designed the company’s safety and health program. Employers Insurance Company of Nevada is a full-service workers’ compensation mutual insurance company with offices statewide.

The Country Companies insurance group has named Butch Hilgert the state director for the company’s Nevada agencies. In his new position, Hilgert is responsible for the development of the management team, which recruits, trains and develops the Nevada agency force. He joined the Country Companies in 1981 and most recently served as agency manager for the Aurora-Kendall Agency in Illinois.

Promenade on the River, an active living community for seniors in Reno, recently named its senior management team. Phil Shapiro, with over 18 years of experience in hospital administration and senior housing/long term care, is managing member, responsible for general direction and strategic planning. Lifestyles director Nancy Shapiro is a clinical nutritionist and health/wellness therapist. Jeri Shields, vice president for public relations and marketing, has over 15 years experience in marketing and human resource management. Jean Smith, director of operations, has over 25 years of professional experience in active adult services, health care and operations management.

Bruce Topper, M.D. has been appointed the new medical director for the Diagnostic Sonography Program of the Community College of Southern Nevada, located in Las Vegas. Dr. Topper, a board-certified radiologist at Desert Radiologists, will assist in preparing students to become ultrasound technologists.

The Board of Directors of the Nathan Adelson Hospice have appointed Rick Kilburn chief executive officer. Kilburn brings extensive knowledge of healthcare systems and more than 24 years experience in healthcare management to the post.

MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS

Milli Clark of KTVY Media Broadcast Network has been elected president of the American Marketing Association Las Vegas Chapter (AMA). AMA is an international professional society for individuals with an interest in the practice, study and teaching of marketing.

The Idea Factory, a Las Vegas-based full service advertising agency, has promoted Janet Sperlazzo to director of client services. She has a strong background in advertising, including casino marketing, as well as digital photography and print marketing.

Kruse & Parker, a statewide advertising, marketing and public relations agency, recently changed its name to KPS/3 to reflect the addition of Casey Strachan as managing partner of its Las Vegas office. Strachan joins Stephanie Kruse and Ronnie Parker as the third partner in the agency, which has offices in Reno and Las Vegas.

NONPROFIT

Former Clark County School District superintendent Dr. Briam Cram has been appointed the director of educational and community initiatives for the Greenspun Family Foundation. The non-profit Henderson-based foundation provides support for local and national civic organizations involved with children.

C*A*R*E Chest of Sierra Nevada recently elected the following individuals to the Board of Directors: president, Todd Butterworth; vice president, Marshall Newman; treasurer, Lynell Meecham; secretary, Kathy Triplett. The Reno-based organization provides free medical supplies and prescriptions for low-income, uninsured Nevada families.

RETAIL

AV Images, an audio visual equipment agency, has announced that Virginia Groshans has been transferred to its Las Vegas office as an audio visual account executive. She has worked in the company’s San Francisco headquarters for over three years.

Las Vegas-based Euphoria Salons and Day Spas has announced the appointment of Robert D. Smith, CPA to the position of director of finance and accounting. Smith, a long-time Nevada resident, previously served as controller for Vista Management, a commercial property management firm.

Travelscape.com, a Las Vegas-based online travel wholesaler, has promoted Linh Ly to controller. Ly, a graduate of UNLV, has worked at the company for over a year. Jim Durbin, a 12-year veteran of the hospitality industry, has been named vice president of sales.

TRAVEL & TOURISM

Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Henderson has named Holly Ansley the director of hotel operations. She has been with the company since 1997. Chad Antrim is the new director of purchasing, responsible for all food and beverage procurement for both Sunset Station and Boulder Station. The new director of cage/credit and keno operations is Cheryl Cooper, who joined the organization in 1987.

Gillian Silver, vice president of corporate communications for Ameristar Casinos, a Las Vegas-based company, has been honored as “Marketing and Tourism Volunteer of the Year” by the Henderson Chamber of Commerce. Cactus Pete’s community affairs director Katheen Moone has been named to the board of directors of the Idaho Ronald McDonald House. Human resource specialist Patricia Mills has been named benefits manager for Ameristar. She brings more than 20 years of experience to the position.

Jaclyn Ferraro has been appointed director of entertainment for Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas. She will be in charge of entertainment operations for the new 1,100 seat Sam’s Town Live entertainment center as well as all property entertainment venues.

Scott Kichline has been named manager of commercial/business development for McCarran International Airport. He has served as McCarran’s concessions manager since 1999.
