How did you get into your profession?
I began my career in finance after graduating from UNLV. My career journey eventually led to a leadership position with the city managing the budget and I knew immediately I had found my passion serving my hometown, building community and helping to improve the quality of life.
What has been instrumental to your success?
Henderson is not just a place on the map, it’s a part of my identity and success. I was born and raised in Henderson, and it’s where my wife and I raised our children, who are now raising their own families. My daily goal was to raise the bar and leave the city better than I found it for all of Henderson.
Now that you are retiring, what’s next?
Life after retirement will be focused on my family, grandchildren and traveling. Of course, I will continue to cheer Henderson on from the sidelines and help where I can.
What is the best moment of your career?
Bringing professional sports to Henderson is a cherished milestone. Our partnerships with the Vegas Golden Knights and Las Vegas Raiders have made Henderson a true sports city and brought many benefits to the community. The revitalization of Water Street also highlights the power of effective planning.
What was the most difficult thing you encountered as a leader?
Being CFO during the Great Recession and City Manager during the pandemic were both difficult yet rewarding experiences. Both challenges tested our resiliency, but our team and community were able to navigate the trials and emerge stronger after each obstacle.
What have you learned in your 26 years of service?
Throughout my 26 years of service, I have learned that teamwork is essential. It is crucial to foster a high-performing culture that encourages risk-taking and creativity, while also supporting one another to achieve great success.
What do you hope future generations can learn from your professional journey?
No matter your position in life, stay humble and true to yourself. Always strive to add value in everything you do and invest in your team through caring and empowerment to unlock their unlimited potential.
