What was your first job?
Working in the Automation Services Department at Pepperdine University.
Who in your life has been instrumental to your success?
My husband, Charles – he’s my left-hand man and helps me see color where I’m used to only black and white.
What was the toughest lesson you’ve learned in your career?
That you determine your own value (and not to give anyone else that power); and that sometimes others will try to knock you down, but it’s important to get up and keep pushing.
What is the best moment of your career?
Starting my own firm and feeling the liberty that came with it. It took me a while to get there…I choose dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.
What career advice would you give to your teenage self?
To be open-minded, take risks and don’t let fear hold you back. Sometimes you must remind yourself to get out of your own way.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
“She Believed She Could, So She Did”
What is an issue currently facing your industry an outside observer might not be aware of?
The struggle that attorneys have in fulfilling the role as “Attorney” as well as “Counselor at Law” that is just as, or even more, important to the clients they serve.
What three words would you want your worst enemy to use when describing you?
Kind, Dynamic and Committed.
What do you want your legacy to be?
[I would like my legacy to be] our five daughters. If they are successful, I am successful. I want to be an example that they can do whatever is in their heart to do; that they have value and they are the ones that determine that – no one else.
What is your motto?
Every moment is a second chance. We may make mistakes, have a bad day or fall off track, but as long as we are living, we have the opportunity to do and be better.
