How did you get into your profession?
I got into economic development by accepting a role as a specialist at the City of Las Vegas in 2007. I supported many initiatives from redevelopment and the medical district to serving as the City’s lead lobbyist at the 80th session of the Nevada Legislature
in 2019.
What career advice would you give to someone just starting in your industry?
Building strong and positive relationships is paramount. This is especially true in economic development, but also in nearly all industries. Invest time in forming these relationships with people around you.
What is an issue currently facing your industry that an outside observer might not be aware of?
Small businesses play a critical role in our local economy. They support several of our key industries including tech and innovation, manufacturing, healthcare, and more. Providing opportunity to these small businesses is key to what we’re after in Clark County.
What would be the title of your autobiography?
“Tales of an Ebony Stiletto Queen ”
What is the best moment of your career?
It’s getting the job I’m in now of leading Clark County’s first-ever economic development department. There is something special about being on the forefront of starting and shaping a new team. I hope to create a legacy for future employees and people who will come after me.
What was the most difficult experience you encountered as a leader?
It is also this current job, but in a very positive and fulfilling way. We are on a mission to help people understand there is much more to Clark County than the Las Vegas Strip. We are shifting perceptions and sharing that Clark County is ‘Bright Beyond the Lights’!
What do you hope future generations can learn from your professional journey?
I hope people learn that they should have fun while they’re working. Take a leap and find a job you enjoy doing. And don’t take yourself too seriously.
