How did you first get into your profession?
I work for Western Nevada College on a grant-funded program to diversify, expand and increase recognition for the contributions of Nevada agriculture. I am an event manager by trade and first started working with farmers 10 years ago when I was an event manager for the City of Sparks and managed the state’s largest farmers market. The rest is history.
What do you like most and least about your industry?
Agriculture is a complex and fascinating industry, and farmers and ranchers are some of the smartest, most down-to-earth people I have had the pleasure to work with. I am continually frustrated by the lack of recognition the industry receives for its economic and social contributions. You are what you eat, and the best food grows closest to home.
What business advice would you give someone just starting in your industry?
Learn as much as you can. Do not let fear of failure deter you from trying new things, and be willing to “take the road less traveled.”
