CCSD’s First Electric School Bus Begins Operations
The Clark County School District (CCSD) has unveiled the first electric school bus in Nevada. The bus was purchased using grant funding from NV Energy and the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP). The district has the largest owned and operated school bus fleet in the nation and transports 125,000 students each school day. The electric buses are expected to save around $60 a day in fuel and cost about $10.61 per day to charge at the current rates. The district expects to replace more diesel fuel buses in the future. A second electric bus was purchased through a grant from the Clark County Division of Air Quality and is expected to be in operation in the second semester.
Southern Nevada Home Prices End 2022 With a Return to 2021 Numbers
A report released by the Las Vegas Realtors ® (LVR) shows the southern Nevada housing market ended the year with home prices matching the December 2021 numbers. The median price of existing single-family homes sold during December was $425,000, down 1.4 percent from November and equal to the median price from December 2021. The all-time record for single-family homes in southern Nevada occurred in May of last year and was $482,000.
Department of Energy Offers Conditional Commitment to Lithium Project
The United States Department of Energy’s (DOE) Loan Programs Office (LPO) has offered a conditional commitment to lend up to $700 million to Ioneer Rhyolite Ridge. The loan would be to develop a domestic supply of lithium carbonate for electric vehicle (EV) batteries from the Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project in Esmeralda County. If finalized, the loan would finance on-site processing of lithium carbonate and potentially support production for approximately 370,000 EVs each year.
Goettl Acquires Reno-Based Company
Goettl Air Conditioning and Plumbing has acquired Nevada Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, Fireplace, Inc. in Reno as part of an ongoing acquisitional growth strategy. The company has announced year-over-year growth of over 30 percent and plans to continue expansion into three to four new markets with at least 10 more acquisitions. Last year, Goettl added operations in Texas and California.
Cox Launches National Mobile Phone Service
Cox Communications has launched Cox Mobile, a mobile phone service available to Cox internet customers. The service unveiled two simple data plans with unlimited talk and text and no term agreements. Cox Mobile allows connections between 5G, Cox home internet and 4 million nationwide Cox wifi hotsposts.
