Nevada Schools Earn Community Work Recognition
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the University of Nevada, Reno have announced they have earned the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement. The distinction is awarded by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education and recognizes schools for connecting their resources with local, regional and global needs via community partnerships, service learning and research activities that contribute to the public good. Only 5 percent of U.S. postsecondary institutions have received this recognition.
City of North Las Vegas Kicks off Downtown Project With Demolition
North Las Vegas leadership is transforming the former city hall property into a mixed-use development. They kicked off the years long transformation with a demolition in January. The redevelopment project will span 19-acres and include as many as 300 residential units, commercial space, a civic building, amenities and open space. North Las Vegas is home to nearly 300,000 residents and was incorporated in 1946.
Select Health Accepting Award Applications
Select Health has announced it is accepting submissions for the 2026 Select Health Awards which will recognize community organizations in Clark County that are advancing health, wellness and quality of life. The awards will highlight efforts of organizations who demonstrate collaboration, sustainability and measurable impact at the community level. As part of the award, 10 organizations will be given $5,000 to support existing initiatives, expand services or pilot new approaches to address community health needs. Organizations invited to apply include nonprofits, grassroots groups, associations and other locally led entities with an annual operating budget of less than $1 million. Select Health is a nonprofit health plan partnered with Intermountain Health.
