(Reno, Nev. – October 7, 2025) – Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada (CCNN) announced today that its Battle Born Housing Plus (BBH+) program has become the first in Nevada to earn certification from the National Association of Recovery Residences (NARR). Completed through a neighboring state’s NARR Affiliate, this milestone positions them to apply for Affiliate status in Nevada and underscores CCNN’s commitment to providing a recovery residence that meets the nation’s highest standards for safe, supportive, and effective environments for individuals overcoming substance use disorder.
Each state Affiliate undergoes a thorough review process before receiving its charter, reflecting the integrity and quality of the programs it oversees.
BBH+ is a comprehensive sober living program designed to support men recovering from substance use disorder. The program provides a structured, supportive environment where residents can focus on recovery while gaining the skills and resources necessary for long-term sobriety and successful reintegration into the community.
“Over the 10 years that Catholic Charities has operated our sober living program, we have seen tremendous outcomes among our residents,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. “This success is a result of our robust program, adherence to best practices, and participation in certification programs. Our residents are doing the hard work to create better opportunities for themselves, which greatly increases their chances for long-term success. The integrity of our program is strong, and we are proud to see our residents grow more resilient and prepared for lasting recovery.”
BBH+ serves up to 80 men and offers congregate living space with shared kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry facilities. Residents receive individualized support plans that may include: case management and behavioral health counseling, substance use counseling and onsite drug/alcohol testing, peer-to-peer support networks and employment support and work opportunities.
This wraparound approach is rooted in the Social Model of recovery, which emphasizes community, shared lived experiences, and structured support. NARR certification reinforces these principles by ensuring that programs prioritize peer and resident participation, granting all individuals an equal voice and rights in shaping their recovery experience. Certified recovery residences also signal to potential residents, their families, referral sources, and government agencies that the program meets the national standard for service quality and effectiveness.
BBH+ helps remove barriers to recovery, reduce recidivism, and promote lasting stability and independence for its residents, creating a safe and healthy environment where life skills and recovery practices can thrive.
