Broadbent & Associates Inc. (Broadbent) exhibited at the Northern Nevada American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Fall Conference in South Lake Tahoe on October 2-4. Broadbent’s senior architectural historian, Courtney Mooney, gave a presentation on Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Section 106 requires federal agencies to consider the effects of their actions on historic properties and provides a mechanism for agencies and communities to provide their input. Like the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 106 can cause serious delays and cost overruns if not well understood and implemented appropriately. Mooney’s session demystified this process and defined roles and responsibilities.
