(August 20, 2024 – Reno, Nev) – On Saturday, September 14, the Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada’s (CCNN) downtown campus will come alive with excitement during the 5th Annual “Raise the Roof” to End Poverty event. KBUL on-air personality JJ Christy will kick off the day at sunrise by perching atop the Catholic Charities building, located at 500 East Fourth Street, where he will remain until $150,000 is raised for the organization. The event will feature a variety of activities, including an Italian-themed catered lunch, program tours, a Thrift Store fashion show, a raffle, and plenty of opportunities to cheer on Christy.
Local law firm Claggett and Sykes has kick-started the donations as the title sponsor with a match gift of $20,000 for the event. Joining the law firm are Western NV Supply, Guild Mortgage and Dolan Auto Group.
Donations received during the Raise the Roof event will directly support CCNN’s vital mission to assist those in need in the Reno/Sparks community and rural Nevada. As demand for services continues to rise, the largest human services nonprofit in the area now serves approximately 50,000 people each month. According to the U.S. Census, 10.3% of Washoe County’s population lives in poverty, highlighting the critical importance of these efforts.
“Catholic Charities is the safety net for individuals and families who depend on our services to meet their basic needs,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. “Our programs tackle the root causes of poverty by engaging and supporting those living in poverty on their journey toward economic equality and a fulfilling life. Supporting our Raise the Roof event enables us to continue offering essential services to help people not just survive, but thrive.”
Tickets for the lunch are $20 for an adult and $10 for children under the age of 12 and can be purchased online at https://ccsnn.org/pages/raise-the-roof-to-ease-poverty, or to donate visit https://ccsnn.org/pages/donate The public can also tune into KBUL 98.1 to support the event.
