On April 8th, Clark County commissioners, in collaboration with Olive Crest, turned the lights surrounding the iconic ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign blue to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month. The event aimed to raise awareness and encourage action to end child abuse and neglect.
Commissioners Justin Jones and April Becker attended and emphasized the importance of moving beyond awareness to action. They highlighted that last year, Child Protective Services investigated over 12,000 cases of alleged abuse and neglect, with more than 3,000 cases substantiated. They called for strengthened community safety, diligent reporting, and a commitment to preventing these tragedies.
Jimmy Monaghan, Executive Director of Olive Crest in Las Vegas, expressed his honor in leading the mission to end child abuse and neglect. He stated, “Each April, we turn the lights of the iconic ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign blue as a beacon of hope and a call to action. By strengthening families, providing safe and loving homes, and equipping young people for life, we are not just responding to the crisis but preventing it.”
