Rob Moreland, founder of Sierra Nevada FC and longtime coach, has been selected as the newest member of the Nevada Youth Soccer Association (NYSA) Hall of Fame. This esteemed honor recognizes his history of service to the organization and his commitment to advancing the sport throughout Nevada.
In 2018, Moreland founded Sierra Nevada FC, a nonprofit soccer club in Reno supporting local youth in their pursuit of becoming exceptional soccer players. He’s also served as the club’s director of coaching since its beginning. In this role, Moreland has helped integrate the TOVO system of play, a training methodology with a focus on cognition, competence, and character. He consistently strives to provide a safe environment with high-level coaching and encourages a love for the game that embodies fair play, good sportsmanship, teamwork, and excellent soccer skills.
Moreland is also the owner of Moreland Physical Therapy. He continues his community outreach by helping students that want to learn and someday have a physical therapy business of their own.
“Rob always has his arms open to anyone with a need,” said Bob Briare, Director of Northern Nevada Soccer and Second Vice-President of NYSA’s board. “This recognition is a testament to his hard work, leadership, and lasting community impact on the game of soccer in Nevada.”
Moreland has an extensive legacy of achievements both as a player and a coach. In 1984, he was drafted to the Kansas City Comets major indoor soccer league. In the same year he received the most votes for the NCAA senior bowl west team. In 1995, Moreland played on the first all far west team for UNLV. He was also named United Soccer League’s Western Division Coach of the Year for the Reno Rattlers in 1995. In 2010, he led Spanish Springs High School to win the reginal championship. He received his USSF A coaching license in 2013.
Moreland was inducted into NYSA’s hall of fame on December 15, at Swift Sportsdome in Reno.
