WHAT: Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada (CIS of Southern Nevada), part of the nation’s leading evidence-based stay-in-school nonprofit organization serving more than 70,000 students in 75 schools throughout the Clark County School District, announces the return of its annual Power Within on Friday, May 1, at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa.

The Power Within breakfast, co-presented by NV Energy Foundation and Cox Communications, recognizes three students for their extraordinary personal and academic growth during the 2025-2026 school year. Additionally, a dedicated CIS site coordinator will receive the Unsung Hero award, recognizing their life-changing impact on student success, and CIS will recognize Senator Joyce Woodhouse for over 40 years of dedication to education and public service in Nevada. The morning will also feature a series of moving student videos underwritten by Howard Hughes, alongside the presentation of the Principal of the Year and various community partner awards. Power Within guests include educators, students, executives, and community leaders.

CIS places full-time, professionally trained site coordinators in 117 Title I and high-needs schools across Nevada to support nearly 100,000 students in grades K-12 who face barriers to their success—increasing the likelihood that students will stay in school and graduate on time. The organization taps into a statewide network of more than 120 community nonprofits, partners, and agencies, bringing the community into the school to help students get whatever they need to overcome the barriers that prevent them from achieving academically. From eyeglasses, dental care, health care, and professional counseling to food, school supplies, clothing, and housing, CIS identifies student needs and finds a way to address them, closing the gaps they experience in their everyday lives. CIS’s long-term vision is for every child enrolled in a Title I or high-needs school to have access to a CIS site coordinator and to its evidence-based integrated student support model, also known as wraparound services. The graduation rate for CIS case-managed high school seniors in Nevada for the 2024-2025 school year was 97 percent.
