— Youth at James, Boulder Highway, and Reynolds Clubhouses enjoy new, cutting-edge technology —
LAS VEGAS – Through a partnership with Cox Communications, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada has opened three new Cox Innovation Labs at local Clubhouses. Funded by more than $145,000 in donations from Cox Las Vegas and the James M. Cox Foundation, these labs provide local kids and teens with innovative learning tools, state-of-the-art technology, and high-speed internet access in a safe, supportive Club environment.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Through tested, proven, nationally recognized programs that focus on Academic Success, Good Character & Leadership, and Healthy Lifestyles, Clubs help youth develop the skills they need to become happy, healthy, responsible adults.
“Our Cox Innovation Labs are at the center of our technology programs,” said Andy Bischel, president and CEO of Southern Nevada. “By having this technology in the Club, youth can complete homework, explore various kinds of digital media, and improve their digital literacy to prepare for college and careers.”
Equipped with new computers, high-speed internet, E-sport consoles, televisions, and more, these labs help bridge the gap for young people with limited access to technology at home. Millions of young people have benefitted from Cox’s commitment to narrowing the digital divide in America. The James, Reynolds, and Boulder Highway Clubhouses are the latest to receive new Cox Innovation labs, which are now available at 10 of 13 Southern Nevada Clubs.
“A reliable internet connection is more important now than ever before,” said Joe Peeples, Cox director of field operations and Boys & Girls Club board member. “We’re committed to ensuring our children are connected at school, at home, and in the Clubs where so many children spend their afternoons.”
