Eddy House, a nonprofit dedicated to ending youth homelessness in northern Nevada, is pleased to celebrate the official groundbreaking of a new 36-unit apartment complex that will serve as their Transitional Living Community. This project is part of the Eddy House’s $14 million campus expansion. The new facility is funded through the Home Means Nevada Initiative through the Nevada Housing Division and two local foundations. The new building will be located adjacent to the Eddy House’s current shelter facility via the existing parking lot on Willow Street.
“There is a need for affordable housing in our community and this new facility will lower barriers to youth accessing services at Eddy House, being able to achieve sustainable independence,” said Trevor Macaluso, Chief Executive Officer, Eddy House. “The Transitional Living Community will give youth two years to continue to learn and grow in a stable and safe environment. During their time in the program, they will be able to grow in their earning capacity and financial stability before identifying other housing options.”
Tolles, a development company based in Reno, is providing the organization with pro bono development and project management services. Cory Hunt, Partner at Tolles, is on the Board of Directors for the Eddy House and has been involved with the project since 2022, when the concept for the building started.
“For the past two years, we’ve rolled up our sleeves on this Transitional Living Community project—it’s a team effort, and we’re thrilled to be part of it alongside some dedicated partners and our truly amazing Eddy House staff,” said Cory Hunt, Partner, Tolles. “The work Eddy House does resonates with me deeply—it’s about breaking the cycle of homelessness by offering more than just a temporary solution. It’s about giving these young people a real chance at a better future.”
In collaboration with Tolles, Pinecrest Construction has been selected as the project’s general contractor, complemented by the design expertise of CWX Architects in the creation of the building. The new building will be five stories tall and feature studio-style apartment living with kitchenettes and in-unit laundry. There will be a bike-sharing library and offices for on-site Eddy House support staff. The project is slated to be completed in Spring of 2025.
In 2023, Eddy House served 511 young individuals, provided transport assistance 2,846 times, and provided 16,489 bed nights. The organization also provided more than a thousand counseling sessions and served nearly 32,000 meals.
