Las Vegas, Nevada – The eleventh annual Spirit of Nevada scholarship contest is now open for Clark County School District high school students. The theme for the 2020 competition is “Treasures of the Silver State.” Sponsored by the Richard Harris Law Firm, the contest awards four high school students with a $1,000 scholarship for displaying their creative interpretation of this year’s contest mantra.
“I first visited Nevada when I was just four years old and moved here when I was 15, and this great State holds a very special place in my heart,” said Richard Harris, Founder of the Richard Harris Law Firm. “I have treasured Nevada since my very first visit. There is so much to appreciate here, and with this year’s scholarship, I’m excited to see the stories Nevada’s students will tell.”
The Spirit of Nevada scholarship encourages students to display their creativity in many ways, from music production, video, artwork, or written word. Through the Spirit of Nevada scholarship contest, students are encouraged to express themselves and their love for the State of Nevada in the medium that feels most natural to them. The theme “Treasures of the Silver State” encourages students to share stories of the little known or special people, places, events or organizations which exist throughout Nevada.
“Living in Nevada is a gift, and it’s constantly giving me something new to love,” said Samantha Chian, host of Spirit of Nevada. “As we enter the 11th year of the Spirit of Nevada scholarship, I know we’ll have the opportunity to review some brilliant submissions from students across the State. I’m looking forward to discovering what they think is a treasure in the Silver State.”
There will be four $1,000 scholarships available; one to be awarded to the student with the best entry in each category. Additionally, $500 will be awarded to the school of each winning student.
Submissions may be made online or in-person at the Richard Harris Law Firm until Friday, April 17, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.

Contest Rules:
Students must be currently enrolled in a high school in Clark County.
Students must be in grades 9 to 12.
Students under the age of 18 must obtain parent/guardian permission.
Contest categories and parameters for entry:
A video (maximum seven minutes, includes film, animation, etc.);
An original work of art (includes painting, sculpture, cartoon, etc.);
A short story or poem (maximum 2,000 words);
An original song or musical production (maximum seven minutes).
These are the only entry methods, and entries must fit properly into one of these categories to be eligible.
Submission must be the original work of the contestant.
Student Release Waiver and Consent of Broadcast and Advertising forms must be filled out and submitted with all submissions. These forms are available on SpiritOfNevada.org.
Entries must be submitted by Friday, April 17, 2020.
