Thousands of low-income Nevada residents and minorities are at risk of losing their Medicaid health insurance soon. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), as part of the National Covid-19 Public Health Emergency 2020 declaration, is coming to an end.
“A huge portion of people who received emergency Medicaid during the pandemic will likely not know that they have lost their health care insurance until it’s too late,” said Angela Quinn, CEO of FirstMed Health and Wellness. “This means that some low-income individuals might not discover that they lost their medical coverage until they have their next doctor’s appointment or see their hospital bill. We can’t let that happen.”
When the FFCRA was first enacted in 2020, it stopped the annual renewal requirement for Medicaid and temporarily expanded eligibility to allow more people to receive Medicaid health insurance. Eligibility requirements will revert to pre-FFCRA qualifications and mandatory annual renewals will resume.
Anyone who received Medicaid during the pandemic is encouraged to call FirstMed Health and Wellness to find out if they are eligible for re-enrollment. FirstMed Health and Wellness is qualified to accept patients with Medicaid coverage and provide information and assistance to those seeking Medicaid health insurance.
Those who are still eligible to receive Medicaid will need to renew their health coverage to remain insured. For immediate information on Medicaid status and for assistance with the health care renewal process, Medicaid recipients can callFirstMed Health and Wellness 24/7 at 702-731-0909 or request information online at www.fmhwc.org/contact-us.
