HENDERSON, Nev. – Southern Nevada Trades High School (SNTHS), a new charter school that opened its door in the Las Vegas Valley this month, has been granted $100,000 by Google to support its Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Mental Health Program.
SNTHS serves an underrepresented, primarily Latino student population and with Google’s support, the institution will provide incoming students with the opportunity to complete Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning-aligned (CASEL) SEL courses before graduation. Additionally, Google’s funding will be put towards the professional development of faculty to successfully deliver the SEL curriculum to students.

We are dedicated to meeting our students where they are and these programs will enable our students to build resilience and improve their emotional well being. This is truly life changing!” said Southern Nevada Trades High School Executive Director, Julie Carver.
The programs, exclusively designed for students, will be dedicated to the counseling center. The center serves as a vital pillar of support for students, and a safe space to express their thoughts, feelings, and challenges with no judgment.

SNTHS is uniquely suited to a demographic that could be considered “at-risk” with its work-based learning approach and dual focus on career and college readiness. Upon completion of high school, SNTHS graduates will be prepared to join the construction industry, attend college, or both.
