Las Vegas, NV—The Greater Las Vegas Auto Skills Challenge will take place on March 27, 2025, at Southwest Career Technical Academy from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This highly anticipated event will bring together 130 talented high school seniors to test their automotive skills in a competitive, real-world environment.
The challenge consists of eight interactive stations, where students will rotate in groups of four, demonstrating essential automotive competencies aligned with Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) standards. These stations will evaluate key areas such as part identification, tool usage, electrical diagnostics, vehicle systems analysis, and more.
Building the Future Workforce
The mission of the Auto Skills Challenge is to equip students with practical automotive knowledge, provide a platform to showcase their expertise, and connect top-performing students with local employers. By hosting this event, industry leaders, educators, and businesses can engage directly with emerging talent, strengthening the pipeline between education and the workforce.
Event Goals:
- Build Workforce Exposure: Connect students with local automotive employers.
- Engage the Community: Strengthen relationships between schools, industry partners, and employers.
- Evaluate and Recognize Talent: Offer hands-on ASE-aligned assessments.
- Support Student Growth: Provide real-world diagnostic and repair challenges to enhance critical thinking.
Event Structure & Challenges
Participants will cycle through eight skill-based stations, each designed to test a different aspect of automotive expertise:
- Work Order Station: Students will be given scenarios and utilize Shop Key for pricing and estimates.
- Tool Identification: Students identify common hand and diagnostic tools.
- Electrical Circuit Building: Students build and test a simple electrical circuit and answer electrical questions.
- Measurement & Precision Reading: Students take precise readings using micrometers.
- Resume Building & Interviewing Skills: Students receive guidance on professional development.
- Wheel Alignment Questions: Students answer questions related to alignment angles.
- Steering & Suspension Identification: Students identify 10 key steering and suspension parts.
- Climate Control Parts Identification: Students identify HVAC components.
