Green Our Planet, the nation’s leading nonprofit in school garden and hydroponics programs, returns to host the largest student-run farmers market in the country on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center.
In its 11th year, Green Our Planet continues to help teachers enhance student academic performance in STEM and foster environmental stewardship in their students through project-based hydroponics and outdoor garden education. Green Our Planet provides teachers with hundreds of PreK-12 STEM, nutrition, financial literacy and conservation lessons through their online platform and trains teachers how to use hydroponics laboratories and outdoor gardens to teach these lessons. Clark County School District students become “Farmpreneurs,” where they take the financial literacy skills they learned while growing food to create and carry out their own business plans at the Giant Student Farmers Market. The student-run farmers market will showcase handmade crafts and fresh produce grown in over 30 school gardens across the Clark County School District. More than 300 student Farmpreneurs will sell their goods to the public, with all proceeds going back to support and sustain the schools’ garden programs.
“The student-run farmers market is a testament of the dedication of our ‘Farmpreneurs’ and the amazing teachers guiding them through our financial literacy curriculum,” said Ciara Byrne, CEO of Green Our Planet. “Students are learning essential skills, from writing business plans and creating profit-and-loss statements to marketing and providing excellent customer service. These experiences not only prepare them for the market but also empower and encourage them to become entrepreneurs in the future.”
The presenting sponsor of the 2024 Fall Farmers Market is the FORMULA 1 LAS VEGAS GRAND PRIX who are proud supporters of the Farmpreneur and school garden programs across the Clark County School District. During this year’s farmers market, participants will be greeted by a Las Vegas Grand Prix car at the entrance of the market. Participants are encouraged to take photos.
“Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix is honored to be the presenting sponsor of the Fall Farmers Market,” explained Lori Nelson-Kraft SVP, Corporate Affairs. “We appreciate Green Our Planet fostering a more sustainable, connected and empowered community through their approach to STEM education and sustainability.”
Green Our Planet will host this event with support from Bank of Nevada, Venetian Resorts, Clark County Nevada, Clark County School District, Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, Credit One Bank, United Way of Southern Nevada, U.S. Bank, Nevada Energy and Nevada State Bank.
EVENT LOCATION: Clark County Government Center, 500 S Grand Central Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89155
