RENO, Nev. – Celebrate the Year of the Dragon at Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR) with a selection of incredible dining specials and menus at Rim Asian Bistro and The Grand Buffet as well as traditional lion dance demonstrations on the casino floor on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 17 at 5 and 8 p.m.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the New Year begins on Feb. 10 and marks the transition from the Year of the Rabbit to the Year of the Dragon. Represented by the only mythical — and the most powerful — creature of the 12-animal Chinese zodiac, the Year of the Dragon is considered special. As the luckiest and most auspicious of the 12 animals, the dragon is thought to signify unprecedented opportunities. In a dragon year, people are said to be able to harness the creature’s intelligence, leadership and abilities to pursue their dreams with creativity, passion, courage and confidence.
Rim Asian Bistro
To usher in the Year of the Dragon, Rim Asian Bistro will offer guests a special four-course meal, themed to honor festive customs.
The night begins with a celebration of “Wealth,” featuring shrimp dumplings served in a warm and earthy shiitake mushroom broth bursting with flavor. For the second course, themed around “Family, Unity and Strength,” guests will enjoy the traditional Chinese dish of lion’s head meatballs, made with a succulent combination of pork and bok choy and served in a light broth.
The main course is a celebration of “Happiness of Longevity.” The entreé features scallion ginger salmon with longevity noodles. Made with a perfectly seared king salmon and served on a bed of veggies and noodles. For dessert, celebrate “Faith, Hope and Love” with a flourless chocolate cake topped with stem ginger pear caramel, coconut shavings and a dollop of white chocolate cream.
This Chinese New Year menu will be served on Feb. 16 and 17 from 5 to 10 p.m. starting at $68 per person. Guests can add a bottle of MIO sparkling sake for $60.
The Grand Buffet
Chinese New Year is grand at The Grand Buffet. Choose from favorites and authentic flavors like dim sum favorites like pork bun and custard bun, hot and sour soup, and chicken satay with spicy peanut sauce. Or load a plate with fresh seafood like steamed clams in black bean sauce, soy ginger salmon, Shanghai shrimp stir fry or Chinese crispy lemon fish. Seafood lovers can also enjoy a sushi station filled with top selections.
Guests in the mood for something hearty can try the hoisin BBQ pork ribs, whole roasted pig or bring the heat with Kung Pao chicken. Not to be missed is the fried rice and fried noodle station, where guests can load a plate with their favorite sides and create an unforgettable plate.
This Chinese New Year menu will be served on Feb. 16 and 17 from 4 to 9 p.m. Prices start at $26 for children and $68 for adults.
