Amidst widespread use by insurance companies of non-driving rating factors in the underwriting of policies, there has also been a surge in post-COVID unfair and discriminatory claims handling by some of the biggest corporations and their underwriters.
In California, where Sam Ryan Heidari’s Los Angeles-based firm Heidari Law Group, P.C., practices law, the problem is so pervasive that this past June 2022, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara was compelled to issue a Bulletin to “All Admitted and Non-Admitted Insurance Companies” and “Licensees” regarding the uptick in racially-driven claims handling discrimination, among other insurance-related discriminatory practices.
Although Heidari has been ahead of these issues, and is pleased that there is finally some light being shined on the issue by the Country’s largest insurance marketplace, he thinks it is not enough.
On May 23, 2019, Heidari’s clients, one driving a vehicle with the other 2 clients inside as passengers, 2 Armenian men and 1 African-American man were involved in a motor vehicle accident with a “U-Haul” truck. The clients were injured, sought medical care, and continue to experience pain to this day physically.
To this date the insurance company has refused to pay.
And as it turns out, this was not the only time U-Haul and RepWest have been involved or are actively involved in litigation against Armenian-Americans and African-Americans. U-Haul/RepWest have gone so far as to bring their own lawsuits against these minorities without any basis other than to intimidate and control.
Heidari Law Group is launching an aggressive campaign to fight racial discrimination, unfair and illegal law practices against both Uhaul, RepWest and any other insuranc ecompany that is using unfair and illegal discriminitory practices.
If you, or anyone you know, has any information related to discriminatory practices by insurance companies, such as U-Haul insurance company RepWest Insurance Company, or think that you or someone you know is the victim of unfair and illegal discriminatory practices, call Heidari Law Group now and tell us your story, or text the keyword UHAUL to 818-818-0707.
