Henderson City Councilman Dan Shaw Files for Re-Election in Ward II

Unknown[81]Dan Shaw, longtime Henderson community advocate, filed for re-election today at City Hall in Henderson. Councilman Shaw has received early endorsements by both the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Political Endorsement Committee and the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters.

“I have had the honor of serving our community for many years, and while our city has matured, we have maintained our hometown feel that provides an exceptional quality of life for our residents. I am energized to begin another term of office and continue building upon our success to make Henderson even better,” said Shaw.

Shaw was appointed to the Henderson City Council in January 2017, representing Ward II, and subsequently elected in 2019.

Shaw is the president and CEO of Rustler Investments and Shaw Jones Partners LLC. Previously, he was the owner of RMI Development, RMI Investment Services and Realty Management as well as president of the Vista Group, where he was responsible for the development and construction of shopping centers, office parks, apartment projects and industrial office facilities throughout Southern Nevada.

Shaw received the Citizen Planner Award in 2017. Presented by the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association, the award recognized his life-long efforts to help improve the quality of life for Henderson and Southern Nevada residents. In addition, the Boy Scouts of America awarded Shaw the Silver Beaver Award, their highest award for service, and he was recognized as the Outstanding Citizen by the State of Nevada for his leadership in the parks and recreation industry. A strong advocate for quality education, Shaw served on the Nevada State College Foundation board of directors, where he lobbied for student achievement and structured growth.

Before his appointment, Shaw served as chair of the Clark County Planning Commission. He also served as chair of the City of Henderson Planning Commission from July 1999 to June 2010, during which time the city’s master plans were revised and the city’s Development Services section was implemented. In addition, he served as a member and chair of the city’s Parks and Recreation Board from July 1987 to June 1999, helping to pass a voter-approved, tax-neutral bond which led to the development of several parks and facilities including the Downtown Recreation Center, Henderson Multigenerational Center, Henderson Pavilion, Mission Hills Park, and Russell Road Sports Complex.

A proud veteran, Shaw honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Infantry and Petroleum Supply Unit from 1969-1974, achieving the rank of SPFC 4. He also studied recreation management at Brigham Young University and later graduated from the American Banking Institute with an emphasis on secondary money markets.

An avid horseman and cowboy at heart, Shaw is an award-winning heeler in team roping events and competes in rodeos throughout the western United States. He also enjoys participating in various outdoor activities. Councilman Shaw and his wife, Paula, have 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
