RENO, Nev. – My Hometown Heroes is hosting the 5th annual Heroes Night Out, a community celebration that blends food, wine, live music and philanthropy into an enticing evening of discovery in Victorian Square. The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20 starting at Engine 8 Urban Winery. Proceeds will benefit My Hometown Heroes to fund scholarships for the Spring and Fall 2024 school semesters.
“Five year anniversaries are a great opportunity to make some noise,” Danny Heinsohn, founder and executive director of My Hometown Heroes said. “Since we began Heroes Night Out in 2019, we have awarded over $80,000 in scholarships to college-bound survivors. This year we look forward to celebrating this milestone anniversary by breaking $100,000.”
With the Heroes Night Out passport attendees can enjoy specials food and drink offerings at multiple locations throughout Victorian Square including:
- A 4oz complimentary glass of wine at Engine 8 Urban Winery
- Mini tacos and chips along with 20 percent off a meal at Chuy’s Mexican Kitchen
- Pulled pork sliders from Cherry Bomb Catering

Attendees can opt for the Urban Passport for a $50 donation or take advantage of the Urban Bundle with five tickets for $200. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Heroes Night Out participants will be treated to a special presentation by My Hometown Heroes scholarship recipient Emma Johnson, who will recount her journey from battling cancer to attending the University of Nevada, Reno.

Battle Born in the State of Nevada, My Hometown Heroes (MHH) is a national scholarship fund for young adult cancer survivors. University of Nevada grad, Danny Heinsohn, started the foundation in 2010 to celebrate his 10th year of brain cancer remission. Since 2011, MHH has awarded scholarships to young adult survivors from across the country between the amounts of $1,000 and $10,000.
