Kirk Stowers, principal geologist and environmental division manager at Broadbent & Associates Inc., delivered a presentation at the American Public Works Association Conference, continuing discussions on innovative strategies for the remediation, reclamation, and funding of the Three Kids Mine Site for residential reuse. During the presentation in Laughlin, Nevada, Stowers outlined the site’s extensive history, spanning from its operation as a manganese mine during WWI and WWII to its current condition. Stowers also spotlighted the groundbreaking funding mechanism employed, which utilizes tax increment financing to facilitate the cleanup and future development, thereby setting a precedent for similar projects nationwide.
