Jewish Nevada, a non-profit organization that serves as the representative organization for the more than 70,000 Jews in Nevada, hosted its Annual Meeting on Jan. 21 in Reno. The event, which was held for the first time in Reno, included the announcement of new board members and also honored outstanding Jewish leaders throughout Nevada.
Among the award recipients was Gregg Rosenberg, who was honored with the “Young Leadership Award,” sponsored by the David L. Simon Foundation, which recognizes a young professional who has demonstrated commitment to the Jewish community through involvement, leadership, and personal achievements.
Jewish Nevada also recognized all the “Jewish Communal Professionals” statewide with the Jewish Communal Professional of the Year award, in honor of the hard work and dedication each person gave last year. Heidi Straus was named the “Mensch Volunteer of the Year” for being an outstanding volunteer for Jewish Nevada, specifically through her work advancing statewide Holocaust education. Additionally, Ben Lesser received the “Jewish Educator of the Year Award” for his exceptional dedication and inspiration as a teacher, sharing his personal experiences as a Holocaust survivor to educate and empower students around the world, specifically in America and Germany.
Pauly Freedman was welcomed as a newly appointed member of the Board of Directors, joining the group of individuals committed to the betterment of Nevada’s Jewish community.
Mimi Kravitz, Chief Impact and Growth Officer at the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), delivered an insightful presentation on Jewish data in Nevada. Her remarks highlighted key demographic trends, community engagement statistics and findings from recent polling conducted by JFNA. The presentation offered insights into the evolving needs and opportunities within the Jewish community.
“Our annual meeting is an opportunity to express our gratitude to our incredible community members and recognize the impact of their contributions over the past year,” said Jewish Nevada President and CEO Stefanie Tuzman. “It’s also a moment to look ahead with excitement at the initiatives we’ll pursue alongside our newly appointed board members. Nevada’s Jewish community is truly remarkable.”
