LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Rotary Club has raised more than $20,000 for this year’s Summer Santa Clothes drive.
Through a collaboration with JCPenney’s Commercial Solutions department, Rotarians donated 1,360 articles of clothing, backpacks and shoes totaling $20,244.63 to Project 150, an organization that supports homeless, displaced and disadvantaged high school students so they can remain in school and graduate.
“We enjoy participating in the Summer Santa Clothes program because we are committed to helping youth succeed in their educational endeavors,” said Jim Kohl, the Las Vegas Rotary Club Santa Clothes Chair. “The program reflects our belief that investing in our youth is investing in the future of Las Vegas.”
The Summer Santa Clothes program exemplifies the power of creating partnerships that support meaningful change. Through the partnership with JCPenney, the Rotary Club purchases new clothing in bulk for SafeNest and Project 150’s Back to School Drive, which serves thousands of homeless and disadvantaged high school students across Southern Nevada.
With the partnership, Rotarians are able to maximize the impact of their contributions, ensuring that more students can receive high-quality, stylish and seasonally appropriate clothing as they prepare for the new school year. By partnering with Project 150, the Las Vegas Rotary Club is able to help young people start the school year with confidence, dignity and a sense of belonging, one outfit at a time.
In December, Las Vegas Rotarians will also host the 30th anniversary of the Santa Clothes program through partnerships with JCPenney, Boy Scouts of America and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. During that drive, Rotarians and volunteer shoppers will shop at JCPenney’s stores at the Meadows Mall, the Galleria Mall and the Grand Canyon Shopping Center for shoes, socks, underwear, pants, shirts and a jacket for children in need.
