Now in its ninth year, Legal Elite highlights Nevada’s top attorneys as chosen by their peers. Polling for the 2016 list began in February of this year and over 6,000 nominations were collected from licensed attorneys throughout the state. Those nominees were vetted and the poll’s results, featured in the following pages, highlight the top vote receivers in Northern Nevada, Southern Nevada, the Best Up and Coming attorneys and the top Government attorneys.
According to the 2015 Annual Report, published by the State Bar of Nevada, there are 8,818 active member attorneys. That’s an increase over last year’s figure with 321 new licensed attorneys added in the reporting period. Additionally, with 12,090 students in law-related education (LRE) programs, that number is only expected to go up. The attorneys featured in Legal Elite have beat out some tough competition and are ranked by their peers as the best of the best.
This year’s list includes only the top 3.7 percent of attorneys in the state. In addition, nearly 40 Best Up and Coming attorneys and 25 Government attorneys are listed.
In order to be included, attorneys passed several levels of scrutiny. After nominations closed, ballots were reviewed for eligibility and each voting attorney was vetted through the State Bar of Nevada to confirm their good standing.
Nominated lawyers were scored based on the number and type of votes they received. Nominations from attorneys at other firms received a scoring of three points and nominations from the same firm received one point. After final scores were tabulated, the top scorers were then verified again and contacted to finalize the Legal Elite list.
Top vote getters in each category are featured on the cover of this issue and include Louis Bubala of Kaempfer Crowell from the Northern Nevada honorees, Krisanne Cunningham with Rice Reuther Sullivan & Carroll from the Southern Nevada honorees and Conor Flynn with Armstrong Teasdale from the Best Up and Coming list.
