The campy horror film “Ghosts of Goldfield,” produced by UNSHAKEABLE Founder Debbie Isaacs, will be screened and will include live comedy commentary
Local nonprofit UNSHAKEABLE, with a mission to guide women recovering from various types of traumas, will again host one of the year’s most awaited and wildly fun fundraisers, The Most Horrible Horror Movie Ever. The 8th annual screening of the campy horror film “Ghosts of Goldfield” will be held at Las Vegas’ only indie film house, The Beverly Theater (515 S. 6th St.) on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. New this year, the screening will include a live comedy troupe providing commentary throughout the film.
Founded in 2016 by Debbie Isaacs, UNSHAKEABLE helps survivors of human trafficking, domestic and sexual violence, addiction, and homelessness. The organization guides women to return to the workforce to achieve financial independence.
Based on the actual haunted hotel in Goldfield, Nevada, Isaacs produced “Ghosts of Goldfield” in 2007. The movie was filmed entirely in Goldfield and Tonopah, Nevada, and stars Kellan Lutz, Marnette Patterson, Mandy Amano, Scott Whyte, Chuck Zito, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, and Ashly Margaret Rae. The movie chronicles a group of five young adults hoping to capture footage of the ghost of a former hotel employee.
In her signature, self-deprecating way, Isaacs claims that while this movie is the most horrible horror movie ever, it launched her production career and that despite a terrible script, the actors were terrific. Viewing this experience as a way to reinforce the notion that “your past does not define you,” (a central theme for UNSHAKEABLE,) Isaacs’ friends, clients, and supporters encouraged her to use the film as a fundraiser. It has since become a highly-anticipated, annual tradition promising an entertaining night of poking fun at the movie while raising money for an impactful organization.
“We always remind our clients that their past doesn’t define them, and that’s true for me as well. That script was terrible, but now I can laugh about it,” says Isaacs. “At UNSHAKEABLE, we believe that if we don’t improve the economic situations of the women we serve, we can’t truly change their future. This event is a fantastic opportunity to have some fun while raising the critical funds needed to keep transforming lives.”
